The squad
How many Arsenal players are at the 2026 World Cup? Fifteen Arsenal players will represent their nations at the 2026 World Cup. Sixteen of us were originally called up across ten countries, but Jurrien Timber withdrew from the Netherlands squad on 8 June after failing to recover from the groin injury that ended his season.
Across how many nations are Arsenal represented? Across nine. England, Spain, Brazil, France, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Sweden, and Ecuador. The Netherlands was the tenth and Timber was the only Arsenal player called up by Ronald Koeman, so his withdrawal removes the country from the count, not just the player.
Which nation has the most Arsenal players? England, with four: Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke. Spain has three (David Raya, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino). Brazil has two (Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli). Every other Arsenal-represented nation has one.
Is Ethan Nwaneri at the World Cup? Not in England's final twenty-six. Nwaneri travels with the squad as a training player, joining the senior camp without a tournament squad place. It is recognition of his rise, not a call-up.
Is Max Dowman at the World Cup? No. Dowman was not selected by Thomas Tuchel for England. Max remains an England Under-19 prospect; the senior call-up is for a future tournament.
The fifteen, by nation
Who are England's Arsenal players? Saka, Rice, Eze and Madueke. England are in Group L with Croatia, Ghana and Panama. The opening fixture against Croatia is the test that will frame the entire tournament for Tuchel.
Who are Spain's Arsenal players? Raya, Zubimendi and Merino. Spain are in Group H with Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde. The most interesting Arsenal angle is in goal: Raya has not been Spain's first-choice through qualifying, with Unai Simon trusted by Luis de la Fuente, but Raya's club season gives the manager a genuine selection question to settle.
Who are Brazil's Arsenal players? Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli. Brazil are in Group C with Morocco, Haiti and Scotland. Gabriel will play in his first World Cup at 28, having debuted only in September 2023; Martinelli arrives for his second tournament, having made three appearances at Qatar 2022.
Who is France's Arsenal player? William Saliba. France are in Group I with Senegal, Norway and Iraq. The opening fixture against Senegal on 16 June will tell us whether Saliba starts ahead of the chasing pack of Konate, Upamecano, and Kounde.
Who is Germany's Arsenal player? Kai Havertz. Germany are in Group E with Curacao, Cote d'Ivoire and Ecuador. Havertz scored in Germany's pre-tournament 2-1 win over the United States; he travels in form.
Who is Norway's Arsenal player? Martin Odegaard, the Norway captain. Norway are in Group I with France, Senegal and Iraq.
Who is Belgium's Arsenal player? Leandro Trossard, in his second World Cup after featuring at Qatar 2022. Belgium are in Group G with Egypt, Iran and New Zealand.
Who is Sweden's Arsenal player? Viktor Gyokeres, at his first World Cup. Sweden are in Group F with the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.
Who is Ecuador's Arsenal player? Piero Hincapie. Ecuador are in Group E with Germany, Curacao and Cote d'Ivoire. Ecuador come into the tournament off pre-tournament wins over Guatemala and Saudi Arabia.

Clubmate clashes in the group stage
Which Arsenal players will face each other at the World Cup? Two confirmed group-stage clashes between Arsenal players.
When do Odegaard and Saliba meet? Norway play France on 26 June at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Both Odegaard and Saliba should start the match in their first competitive meeting on opposite sides. The result is likely to decide which of them tops Group I.
When do Hincapie and Havertz meet? Ecuador play Germany on 25 June at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the same ground that will host the final on 19 July. Hincapie's defending against Havertz's pressing is the matchup to watch.
What about Brazil and any Arsenal teammates? Gabriel and Martinelli are in Brazil's Group C, which contains no other Arsenal-represented nation. No clubmate clash for either Gabriel in the group stage. If both teams advance to the knockouts, Brazil could face England, Spain, France or Germany, and the first Arsenal-versus-Arsenal moments at that stage become possible.
Former Gunners
Which former Arsenal players are at the World Cup? A strong contingent. Granit Xhaka and Sead Kolasinac are both in Group B, with Switzerland and Bosnia-Herzegovina respectively. Folarin Balogun leads the line for the United States in Group D, alongside Paraguay, Turkiye, and Australia (where another former Arsenal name, Mat Ryan, is in goal). Takehiro Tomiyasu, now at Ajax after leaving Arsenal in 2025, is in Japan's Group F squad and will face Gyokeres' Sweden in their group. Kieran Tierney, who scored in his Arsenal farewell in 2025, is with Scotland in Group C, alongside both Gabriels. Nicolas Pepe is with Cote d'Ivoire in Group E, against Hincapie's Ecuador and Havertz's Germany, and carries twelve international goals into the tournament. Emiliano Martinez defends the title with Argentina in Group J, alongside Austria, Algeria and tournament debutants Jordan.
Squad numbers at the tournament
What numbers are Arsenal players wearing for their countries? For England: Saka 7, Rice 4, Eze 21, Madueke 20. For Spain: Raya 1, Merino 6, Zubimendi 18. For Brazil: Gabriel 3, Martinelli 22. For France: Saliba 17. For Norway: Odegaard 10. For Germany: Havertz 7. For Belgium: Trossard 10. For Sweden: Gyokeres 17. For Ecuador: Hincapie 3.
Which players keep their Arsenal shirt number at the tournament? Two. Bukayo Saka wears 7 for both club and country. Noni Madueke wears 20 for both. Every other Arsenal player changes shirt number for their national team.
Venues we have played at before
Where will the final be played? MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on 19 July 2026.
Have Arsenal played at any World Cup venues? Yes, at three. MetLife Stadium, where we lost 2-0 to Manchester United in pre-season 2024, the same ground that will host the final. SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where we beat Barcelona 5-3 in 2023 and Manchester United 2-1 in 2024. Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where we lost 2-1 to Liverpool in 2024.
Which of our pre-season scorers at MetLife are at this World Cup? None. Our last MetLife outing was a 2-0 defeat. The SoFi memory is the brighter one: Saka, Havertz, Trossard (twice) and Fabio Vieira scored in the 5-3 Barcelona win. All but Vieira are at this tournament, and Saka, Havertz and Trossard have already scored at venues the tournament returns to.
Joining the greats
Have any Arsenal players won the World Cup? Seven. George Eastham was in England's 1966 squad without featuring; Emmanuel Petit and Patrick Vieira lifted the trophy with France in 1998 (Petit scored in the final); Cesc Fabregas became our first home-grown winner with Spain in 2010; Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski all won with Germany in 2014.
Can any of our current fifteen join that list? The tournament favourites are Brazil, France, England, Spain, Germany and Argentina, and five of those carry Arsenal players. Brazil with Gabriel and Martinelli would mean Arsenal's first Brazilian World Cup winners. England with four of ours would be the largest single-club English contingent on a World Cup squad in decades. Spain with three would extend the run begun by Fabregas. We have a player in every realistic title path.
Knockout rounds and beyond
When does the knockout phase begin? The Round of 32 begins on 28 June and runs through 3 July, when sixteen matches reduce the field to sixteen teams. The Round of 16 follows from 4 to 7 July. The quarter-finals are 9 to 11 July. The semi-finals are on 14 and 15 July. The bronze final is on 18 July in Miami. The final is on 19 July at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
Could Arsenal players face each other in the Round of 32? Yes, in at least one bracket fixture. Match 78 on 29 June at 1pm ET pairs the second-placed team from Group E (Germany or Ecuador) against the second-placed team from Group I (France or Norway). That match guarantees an Arsenal-versus-Arsenal moment if both groups send second-placed teams: either Havertz or Hincapie facing Saliba or Odegaard. Other potential Arsenal-Arsenal collisions depend on group-winner outcomes and third-place qualifications, all settled on the evening of 27 June.
