Arsenal are reportedly the leading candidates to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola this summer, according to L'Equipe. The French outlet reports that Andrea Berta has made contact with the 23-year-old's representatives, with contract extension negotiations between Barcola and PSG paused until after the Champions League final on May 30.
That final, of course, is against us.
What the sources are saying
The L'Equipe report, published on May 17, describes Arsenal as the "most likely destination" for Barcola should he leave PSG. Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg corroborated the picture on May 7, reporting that we have shown "very strong interest" in the player and have already gathered information on his financial demands. The Sun, citing L'Equipe, added that Liverpool's interest in Barcola has cooled, with the Reds now prioritising a right-sided winger to accommodate Rio Ngumoha on the left. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation, according to Plettenberg, though neither is considered as advanced as our position.
Barcola is under contract with PSG until 2028. He joined from Lyon in 2023 for a fee reported at approximately €45 million and has made over 150 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals this season and 21 in 2024/25. His versatility across the front three and his pace in one-on-one situations have made him one of the most sought-after young attackers in European football.
Why PSG might sell
Barcola's situation at the Parc des Princes has become complicated. The arrivals of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue, combined with Ousmane Dembele's continued prominence, have limited his guaranteed starting opportunities under Luis Enrique. The manager substituted Barcola at half-time during a recent 2-0 win over Lens and was reportedly frustrated with his decision-making during the match, according to The Sun.
PSG have not publicly indicated that Barcola is available. The pause in contract extension talks is framed around the Champions League final rather than any definitive decision to sell. Until that final is played, the picture will remain speculative.
Where Barcola would fit
Our need for a left-sided attacking option has been visible all season. Gabriel Martinelli's contract expires in 2027, and while he has contributed in important moments, the consistency of his output has been a recurring discussion point. Barcola would offer directness, pace, and the ability to play across the front line, a profile that complements what we already have in Saka, Madueke, Trossard and Eze.
The timing of these reports is unusual. We are 10 days away from facing PSG in the biggest match of our season, and the suggestion that we are simultaneously negotiating for one of their players adds an unavoidable layer of tension to the build-up. Whether that tension accelerates or complicates the move remains to be seen.
All claims in this piece are sourced from published reports and are framed accordingly. No deal has been confirmed, and PSG have not publicly commented on Barcola's availability.
