Dennis Bergkamp is backing Arsenal to end their two-decade Premier League title drought, but the Invincibles legend has one major concern, and it has nothing to do with Manchester City or Aston Villa.

Speaking on The Overlap podcast, Bergkamp said he doesn't believe any of Arsenal's rivals are strong enough to overturn Mikel Arteta's side at the top of the table. The Gunners currently sit six points clear of City, while Villa have drifted nine points behind following a recent dip in form.

With the Opta supercomputer giving Arsenal a 90.5% chance of lifting the title, the stats are firmly on their side. But Bergkamp, who won three Premier League titles at Highbury including the legendary unbeaten 2003-04 season, thinks the real danger could come from within.

"The danger is, of course, that people start to talk about the last few seasons," he said. "If the players let that come to you, if you are going to mention it yourself, then the players will know."

That's a pointed reference to Arsenal's recent history of near-misses: coming close in 2022-23 and again last season before ultimately falling short. Bergkamp knows better than most how quickly confidence can curdle into caution at the top of the table. His advice to the players is to channel Arsene Wenger. "I know what Arsene always said: 'Every game is a final, just focus on the next game.' That is the main thing now."

Speaking about the chase for the title chase, Bergkamp is fairly relaxed. "I wouldn't be too worried because I feel the other teams aren't strong enough at this moment. City may be coming there. I don't think other teams could catch them because they are going to drop points as well."

He does acknowledge the toughest stretch is still ahead, with Champions League commitments piling up for all the contenders. "The big games are yet to come. The difficult period is yet to come for all the teams, because they are all still in the Champions League and fighting on."

But his clearest warning is about mentality. "The only thing I would say is about the intensity of the first few months and the excitement. It looks sometimes now like 'let's not make a mistake.' And in football, if you are at the top, if you want to be a champion, you can't rely on that mentality."

It's a fine line between playing smart and playing scared, and Bergkamp is urging Arsenal to make sure they stay on the right side of it. Arteta's men have bounced back well of late, winning their last two Premier League games against Leeds and Sunderland after losing to Manchester United at home.

According to Bergkamp, the title is Arsenal's to lose. The only thing that can stop them is letting themselves believe that.
