Christos Tzolis was forced off after 18 minutes of Greece’s 2-2 Nations League draw with the Netherlands in Thessaloniki on October 1, 2026, with a suspected hamstring injury. Greek media report he will return to Arsenal early for assessment, nine days before we host Leeds at the Emirates.

The injury came shortly after Tzolis had a goal ruled out for offside. Greece head coach Ivan Jovanovic said afterwards that Tzolis had refused to be substituted, which is never what you want to hear about a hamstring. There is no timeline until our medical staff have scanned it.

A second hamstring in the same break

This is the second hamstring problem we have picked up on international duty in this break, and both came against the same opponent. Kai Havertz has already returned from the Germany camp after his injury against the Netherlands.

Why Tzolis matters on the left

Tzolis has started all five of our Premier League games this season. With Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli sold this summer, he is the only recognised left winger in the squad. If he misses Leeds, Eberechi Eze is the obvious replacement, with Noni Madueke the other option.

We let two wide players go this summer and backed Tzolis to carry the left side. If this scan comes back badly, that decision gets tested straight away, starting with Leeds.
